The short version. Timeline is a private app for sharing moments with friends. You own what you post — we only get the permission we need to show it to the people you chose. Be decent to other people, don't post things you have no right to post, and we'll do the same on our end.
Timeline is free and in beta, so expect rough edges. You can leave and delete everything at any time.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Fort Greene Lab, Co. ("Timeline," "we," "us," "our") covering your use of the Timeline iOS app and this website (together, the "Service"). Our Privacy Policy is part of these Terms.
By creating an account or using the Service, you accept these Terms. If you don't accept them, don't use Timeline.
1. Who can use Timeline
You must be at least 13 years old. If you live in the European Economic Area and the digital-consent age where you live is higher than 13, you must be at least that age. You must also be able to form a binding contract, and not be barred from using the Service under the laws of your country.
If you're under 18, you should review these Terms with a parent or guardian.
You may not use Timeline if we've previously terminated your account for violating these Terms.
2. Your account
- Sign-in is by phone number. There's no password — we send a one-time code by SMS. Keep control of your phone number and the device receiving those codes; anyone who has both can reach your account.
- Message rates. Your carrier may charge you for the sign-in messages we send. Those are transactional messages needed to sign in, not marketing.
- Be accurate. Give us real information and keep it current.
- One account per person, and it's yours alone — don't share it, sell it, or transfer it.
- Tell us fast if you think someone else got into your account, at contact@timelin.ee.
You're responsible for what happens on your account.
3. Your content stays yours
You own the photos, videos, captions, comments, and messages you create. We claim no ownership of any of it.
To run the Service, we need your permission to handle that content. You grant us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, reformat, resize, and display your content — solely to operate and provide Timeline to you and the people you've chosen to share it with. That's the whole scope. We don't use your content for advertising, we don't license it to anyone else, and we don't use it to train AI models.
The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, with two practical exceptions: content you already shared stays with the people you shared it with, and residual copies may persist briefly in backups before they rotate out. Our Privacy Policy §12 spells out exactly what deletion removes and what survives.
When you post something, you're confirming that you have the right to post it, and that sharing it through Timeline doesn't break the law or anyone else's rights.
If you send us feedback or suggestions, we can use them freely without owing you anything. We'd rather have the feedback than the formality.
4. What you can't do
Don't use Timeline to:
- Post content that is illegal, hateful, harassing, threatening, defamatory, sexually explicit, or that promotes violence or self-harm.
- Post sexual content involving minors, or content that exploits or endangers a child — ever, in any form. We report this to the authorities.
- Harass, bully, stalk, or intimidate anyone.
- Share someone else's private information without their consent, including photos of them taken where they'd expect privacy.
- Impersonate any person or organization, or misrepresent your affiliation with one.
- Post content you don't have the rights to, or that infringes anyone's copyright, trademark, or other rights.
- Spam, scrape, crawl, or run bots against the Service; sell or farm accounts; or send unsolicited promotions.
- Break, probe, overload, or circumvent the Service's security, rate limits, or access controls, or try to reach data that isn't yours.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app, except where the law says you may.
- Use the Service to build a competing product, or to train a machine-learning model on other people's content.
5. Sharing and privacy between users
Timeline gives you controls — private moments, a private account, blocking — and you should use them. But understand what sharing means: anyone who can see your content can screenshot it, save it, or repeat it elsewhere. We can't prevent that, and we're not responsible for what people you shared with go on to do.
Think before you share, particularly with content involving other people.
6. Objectionable content, reporting, and moderation
We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behaviour on Timeline. Concretely:
- Report anything. Email contact@timelin.ee with a description and a screenshot if you have one.
- We act within 24 hours. We review every report, remove content that violates these Terms, and eject the user who posted it.
- Block anyone. Blocking is built into the app and takes effect immediately in both directions — you disappear from each other.
- We may act on our own. We can remove content or suspend accounts when we believe these Terms have been broken, with or without a report.
We're a small team, not a court. We may get calls wrong, and we may remove content or suspend an account without advance notice when the situation calls for it. If you think we made a mistake, email us and we'll take another look.
7. Beta software
Timeline is in beta. It will change, features will appear and disappear, and it will have bugs. Data loss is possible. Don't rely on Timeline as the only home for a photo you can't lose — keep your originals in your own photo library.
8. Changes to the Service
We may add, change, or remove features, and we may suspend or discontinue the Service entirely. If we shut Timeline down, we'll give you reasonable notice and a chance to retrieve your content where we can.
Timeline is currently free. If we ever introduce paid features, we'll say so clearly in advance and you'll never be charged without agreeing first.
9. Ending things
You can leave whenever you want. Delete your account from Profile → Settings → Delete Account in the app. What happens next is described in the Privacy Policy §12.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you break these Terms, if your account creates legal risk for us or other users, or if we discontinue the Service.
Sections that by their nature should outlast the agreement do: content licences already granted for shared content, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law.
10. Other people's services
Timeline runs on top of services we don't control — Apple's App Store and push notifications, your carrier's SMS delivery, and the infrastructure providers named in our Privacy Policy. Their terms apply to their parts, and we're not responsible for them.
11. Copyright complaints
If you believe something on Timeline infringes your copyright, email contact@timelin.ee with: what work was infringed, where it appears in the app, your contact details, a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorized, a statement under penalty of perjury that your notice is accurate and you're authorized to act for the owner, and your signature.
We remove infringing content and terminate repeat infringers' accounts. If your content was removed and you think that was wrong, email us a counter-notice with the same detail.
12. No warranties
To the fullest extent the law allows, Timeline is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement.
We don't promise the Service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, error-free, or that content will never be lost. Some places don't allow these exclusions, so parts of this may not apply to you.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or loss of goodwill, arising from your use of the Service — even if we were told such damages were possible.
- Our total liability for all claims relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of USD $100 or the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Timeline is free, so in practice that is USD $100.
None of this limits liability that can't be limited by law — including gross negligence, willful misconduct, fraud, or personal injury. Some jurisdictions don't allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you.
14. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Fort Greene Lab, Co. and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, and reasonable legal fees arising out of your content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms or of anyone else's rights. We'll tell you promptly about any such claim and let you take the lead on the defence, provided you handle it responsibly.
15. Apple App Store terms
The app is licensed, not sold, to you. Where you obtained it through Apple, the following applies and the Apple Licensed Application End User License Agreement also governs:
- This agreement is with us, not Apple. Fort Greene Lab, Co. — not Apple — is solely responsible for the app and its content.
- Scope of licence. You get a non-transferable licence to use the app on any Apple-branded product you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
- Maintenance and support. We are solely responsible for it. Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the app.
- Warranty. We are responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, to the extent not effectively disclaimed. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the app.
- Product claims. We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims relating to the app — including product liability, any failure to conform to legal or regulatory requirements, and claims under consumer protection or privacy law.
- Intellectual property. If a third party claims the app infringes their intellectual property rights, we — not Apple — are solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement, and discharge of that claim.
- Legal compliance. You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Contact. Questions, complaints, or claims about the app: contact@timelin.ee.
- Third-party terms. You must comply with any applicable third-party terms when using the app.
- Third-party beneficiary. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, upon your acceptance, will have the right to enforce them against you.
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you and we each consent to their jurisdiction.
There is no forced arbitration in these Terms and no class-action waiver. If you live somewhere whose consumer-protection laws give you the right to bring a claim locally, or entitle you to your own courts, nothing here takes that away.
Before filing anything, please email contact@timelin.ee. Most problems are faster to fix than to litigate. This is a request, not a precondition.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We'll revise the "last updated" date above, and for material changes we'll notify you in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use Timeline after that means you accept the updated Terms. If you don't, delete your account.
18. Everything else
- Severability — if a provision is unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
- No waiver — if we don't enforce something right away, we haven't given up the right to enforce it later.
- Assignment — you can't transfer these Terms; we may transfer them to a successor in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
- Entire agreement — these Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the Service.
- Third parties — nobody else gains rights under these Terms, except Apple as described in §15.
